I have included photos
taken of the fuselage, tail feathers and the unique plug in wing at
various stages of the building process. Click on the links below to
view photos of the "plug in wing" & the fuselage assembly.
As of this writing, the King completed the first flight on August
31, 2008. The wingspan of the original
model was 80 inches and that's what I planed to build. However, with
limited cargo hauling space in my car I could only carry a 70"
wing safely. Therefore, I have designed a plug-in-wing system for
the 80" wing. I tested the wing brace and receptacle system to
6g's and determined that would be more than adequate. If you are interested
in the plug-in-wing, I have detailed building information on this
site. The King Altair is a classic model whose vintage takes it back into mid 1960's. Vic Husak in cooperation with Ed Kazmirski designed the King Altair as an advanced pattern ship. Many of the design features are still being used today. In fact, the plane is still relevant in modern pattern events. NOTE I am building another King Altair from a Home and Hobby Solutions kit. This second King will is powered using a brushless electric motor. Typically the motor will be capable of producing approximately 2 horse power (1450 watts) to fly the King. Select the "Electric Version" below. |
