Building Details for the Wing
Stage 2 Assembly
This wing is designed to
be in two pieces for easier transportation. There are two main components
to the plug-in wing.
The dihedral box and the dihedral brace. The box is constructed of 1 X 1/4
X 8 inches use for the sides. 3/4 X 1/4 X 8
inches for the top and bottom. Use good hard " C" grain stock
to make the box. Cement the box together as shown.
Use a 1/4 X 1 inch 5 ply plywood dihedral brace inside the box but be sure
that you don't let the cement dry with
it in there. Push it in and out clearing away any glue before it dries.
It should fit firm while being smooth when you
push it in and pull it out. You can sand the brace a little to make it easier
to insert and extract.
Shown below is the 1 X 1/4
X 8 inches (5 ply) plywood dihedral brace.
The location for the dihedral
box is measured from the trailing edge of the wing center section. The trailing
edge (T.E) is
perpendicular to the ribs. Measure 7.0 inches from the T.E to locate the
first cut. Then measure 7.75 inches to locate
the (top) or second cut. The cuts should be square and require only cutting
W-1, W-2 and W-3. The box butts
against rib W-3. Do not cut W-3. Using scrap 1/32 inch plywood in the kit,
cut reinforcement braces to fit around the
box to reinforce the rib. I used one on each side of the rib. However, one
may be enough to strengthen the rib sufficiently.

sufficiently. Rib W-1 is balsa with the spars showing at the end of the
wing. I used 1/32 ply glued
to the face of W-1 to make it look neater. After the box is in place, cut
triangular gussets to reinforce the ribs

Note the rear holes in the
ribs that were used for building alignment when you built the wing. Use
the last 5/16 trailing edge
rib hole to construct a alignment pin for the wing. Use ply on both sides
to reinforce and a 5/16 inch dowel. This
prevents the wing from twisting during handling.
